Featuring Allison Kelly, Kelley Mooney and Catherine O'Brien
The Victoria Playhouse will present Fascinating Ladies, a musical tribute to the great girl groups of the last century from September 12 to 16.
A Young at Heart Theatre production starring Allison Kelly, Catherine O’Brien and Kelley Mooney, this revue takes the audience on a musical journey from the 1920s to the 1970s, featuring memorable tunes from such legendary ensembles as The McGarrigle Sisters, The Exciters, The Boswell Sisters, The Chordettes and The Andrew Sisters, including songs such as Heart like a Wheel, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Tell Him, Sentimental Journey, Java Jive, The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s in his Kiss) and more. Joni Mitchell will also be featured with renditions of Both Sides Now and Big Yellow Taxi. Personal anecdotes from the three performers will be interwoven throughout the show with stories of life on Prince Edward Island from each era.
Fascinating Ladies was created and is directed by Catherine O’Brien, who has worked as a professional actor in theatres across Canada for over 20 years, including eight seasons with the Charlottetown Festival. In 2017 she directed Anne and Gilbert at The Guild in Charlottetown and in 2016 directed Martha Irving in Tomson Highway’s musical, The Post Mistress, for the Victoria Playhouse. She served as the Artistic Director with the Harbourfront Theatre Summer Festival for three seasons and is currently interim Executive Director for King’s Playhouse in Georgetown.
Joining O’Brien on stage are Allison Kelly and Kelley Mooney. Allison Kelly is a member of Sirens, PEI’s award-winning women’s choral ensemble, one half of the folk duo Allison and Andrea, a choral scholar with Trinity United Church in Charlottetown and a member of Luminos Ensemble. Kelley Mooney is well known for her Easter version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” which garnered more than 14 million views on social media.
